  • In 1969, she participated in the Screenwriters Guild of America—The West’s Open Door Workshop. During her time there, she had the opportunity to meet Harlan Ellison, a famous author in the science fiction genre.
  • Harlan Ellison encouraged her to enroll in the 1970 session of the Clarion Science Fiction Writers Workshop, so she did just that. Here she ran upon Samuel R. Delany, a famous author she had already read.
