When you unblock someone on Facebook, they can send you a friend request and look at your profile, based on your privacy settings and permission controls. This piece shows you how to unblock a profile and talks in depth about how doing so affects your privacy and safety.
Facebook Profiles
In the second quarter of 2023, Facebook had 3 billion monthly active users. It was a popular way for people all over the world to talk to each other. Users must make an account, also called a “profile,” in order to get started.
It is a personalized place where you can post updates, share media, build a friend list, connect with other users, and add personal information that others can interact with based on your privacy settings. Members can post photos and videos, send messages, create events and pages, play games, send invites, follow artists, watch live videos, buy and sell locally, and join groups, among other things.
How you control the information on your profile is up to you. You can block a person if you don’t want them to be able to see your profile for any reason. You can change your privacy settings, update your password, edit your biography, review tags, limit who can see your posts, and run a privacy checkup.
What Is Unblocking?
When you unblock a profile, the person who owns that profile can visit your account. They can add you as a friend, send you a private message, tag you, mention you in comments, interact with your posts, and do more. Based on how you’ve set up your page, the person will be able to see your public timeline and get in touch with you. When you unblock someone, they can see your public profile, add you as a friend, tag you in pictures, invite you to events, start a chat with you, and more.
When To Unblock Someone
A social media profile is your own place that you should only let a few people into. You might block someone on Facebook if you don’t want them to be able to get in touch with you or use your account. Blocking is a simple way to stay away from a troublesome ex who won’t stop messaging you, a nosy boss who wants to know where your birthday party is, or a distant cousin who criticizes your beach photos.
If someone keeps sending you messages, spamming your comments, writing on your timeline, tagging you in photos that have nothing to do with you, or bothering you in any other way, it might be time to block them. Also, you can report a profile that seems to violate Facebook’s rules for the group. Blocking helps people avoid fighting when they don’t need to and ends conflicts.
On the other hand, unblocking can be a sign of a new start. Depending on your privacy choices, it lets the person see your public posts and interact with your profile in other ways. You can’t tell someone on Facebook that you’ve cleared them, but you can send them a friend request.
Unblocking on Desktop
Follow these steps to unblock people on Mac, Windows, and Linux operating platforms.
1. Use your email address or phone number and password to log in to your Facebook account.
2. Tap the screen button in the top right corner of the screen and choose Settings and Privacy from the menu that appears.
3. Go to “Settings.”
4. Choose “Blocking” from the list of options on the left side of the screen and hit “Edit” next to “Block users.”
5. Click “See your list of banned sites.”
The list of users who have been blocked will show. Click the “Unblock” button next to the user’s name that you want to let in.
7. In the pop-up menu, click “Confirm” to unblock the page.
It’s no longer blocked. Now, the person who you unblocked can see all of your public Facebook information and connect with your profile.
Unblocking on Mobile App
Unblock people by using the mobile app, which works on iOS, Windows, and Android devices.
1. Use your email address or phone number and password to log in to your Facebook account.
2. Click on the menu button on the right side of the screen and choose Settings and Privacy. Choose Settings from the drop-down options.
3. Under Audience and Visibility, tap Blocking.
4. A list of the profiles you have blocked in the past will show up, with an opportunity to unblock them next to each name. Click the Unblock button next to the person you want to see again.
5. In the pop-up menu, choose “Unblock” to complete the action.
The user can now see your public information and connect with your profile because your profile is no longer blocked.
It’s important to remember that unblocking someone doesn’t add them to your list of friends instantly, and Facebook doesn’t tell them when you unblock them. Either person has to send a friend request, which the other person has to accept. You can block and unblock a user as many times as you want, but you have to wait 48 hours after you unblock someone before you can block them again.
